Early Childhood Mental Health

Infant and early childhood mental health refers to the quality of a child’s first and early relationships and the child’s social and emotional development.  This includes a child’s ability to:

  • Experience warm and responsive relationships with caregivers
  • Form relationships with others
  • Explore their environment and learn
  • Communicate in play
  • Experience, express, and regulate emotions

Services May Include:

  • Play based interventions
  • Focus on developing secure parent-child relationships
  • Parent education and support
  • Trauma based interventions
  • Consultation with childcare providers/preschool teachers

A diagnostic assessment for a child ages 0-5 involves three sessions to consider all aspects of the child’s development, relationships, and environment.
